Rush Matters

the English Bulrush, (scirpus lacustris).
The raw material
is harvested from the Rivers Ouse, and Nene, to be hand woven
into; rush floor matting (medieval matting / apple matting) and carpets, a perfectly
natural flooring, basketry to include log, shopping, and wastepaper
baskets, tableware, tablemats, hats, apple matting, moses baskets,
and hand-woven bags and chair seating. As a Rush Merchant rush
bolts are despatched
by
carrier to chair seaters basketmakers and coopers throughout
the country, and a rush seating, re-cane seating and a traditional re-upholstery repair service
is available. We undertake re-upholstery, only using traditional materials and not using foam or staples, clients include
The National Trust, for whom a large mat of over 200sq.m. has been woven this year for Hardwick
Hall, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and The FitzWilliam Museum,
Cambridge. Rush weaving Weekend workshops teaching plaiting and
